Overview

Sift (“the App”) is an AI-powered flashcard study app developed by 8BitBiss. Sift turns your notes, documents, and pasted text into flashcards and helps you study them with spaced repetition. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, who it is shared with, and your rights regarding that information.

Information We Collect

To provide the App’s features, we collect the following:

Account information (email address). When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email address to create and authenticate your account.
Your study content. Notes, pasted text, uploaded documents (such as PDFs), and the flashcards, subjects, and study progress you create in the App.
Purchase information. Your subscription status and purchase history, used to unlock and manage Sift Pro. Payments are processed by Apple; we never receive or store your payment card details.
Account identifier. A unique user ID that links your content and subscription to your account.

We collect this data only to operate the App’s core functionality. We do not use any of it for advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

How We Use Your Information

Authenticate you and keep your account secure.
Generate flashcards from the content you provide, using AI.
Save and sync your subjects, flashcards, study sessions, streaks, and progress.
Provide the AI tutor chat and answer-grading features.
Manage your subscription and unlock Pro features.

Microphone & Speech Recognition

Sift can transcribe spoken answers during review. Speech is converted to text on your device using Apple’s Speech framework. Your voice audio is not stored by the App and is not transmitted to our servers or any third party.

Third-Party Services

Sift relies on the following service providers to function. Data is shared with them only as needed to deliver the App’s features:

Supabase — secure cloud storage, authentication, and hosting of your account, content, and study data.
OpenAI — the text and documents you choose to turn into flashcards, and your AI tutor chat messages, are sent to OpenAI to generate cards and responses. This content is processed to provide the feature and is not used to serve you ads.
RevenueCat — manages subscription status and purchase validation.
Apple — processes all payments and provides Sign in with Apple.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with advertising networks or data brokers.

Data We Do NOT Collect

No location data
No advertising identifiers
No cross-app or cross-site tracking
No contacts, photos, or health data
No stored voice recordings

Data Retention & Deletion

Your content and account data are retained while your account is active. You can permanently delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account inside the App. Deleting your account removes your profile, subjects, flashcards, study history, and uploaded files from our systems. Uninstalling the App alone does not delete server-side data — use the in-app Delete account option.

Children’s Privacy

Sift is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

Data Security

Data transmitted between the App and our service providers is encrypted in transit. Access to your account is protected by Sign in with Apple or Google. While no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can delete all of your data using the in-app Delete account feature, or contact us at the email below for any other request.

Changes to This Policy

If this Privacy Policy is updated, the new version will be posted in this repository with a revised effective date. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
